General Manoj Mukund Naravane, PVSM, AVSM,
SM, VSM (Retd), completed his schooling at the Jnana
Prabodhini Prashala in Pune, and then joined the 56th
Course at National Defence Academy, Pune. He was
commissioned into The Sikh Light Infantry in June 1980
and commanded the 2nd Battalion (Sikh LI) of
Rashtriya Rifles in Jammu and Kashmir as well as the
106 Infantry Brigade in the Northeast. In his illustrious
career, he has extensive experience in Counter-insurgency
operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast India,
as well as in the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka
during Operation Pawan. He has served as the Military
Attaché to Myanmar at Yangon, and later went on to
command the Assam Rifles as Inspector General (North)
in Kohima, Nagaland before taking charge of the
Ambala-based Kharga Strike Corps. Before serving as the
Army Chief from January 2020 to April 2022, he
served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of
Army Training Command, General Officer
Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command
and Vice Chief of Army Staff.
His wife, Veena Naravane, is a teacher.
