Colonel JS Dhillon, SM** from the Grenadiers Regiment, is an established Mountaineer and Skier of the country. He was President of the Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI) for eight years. He has been the longest serving Principal of two National Mountaineering and Skiing Institutes ie Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) Darjeeling and IISM, Gulmarg. He took over a defunct IISM in troubled Kashmir and transformed it into a world class ski school which now imparts training of international standards. He has trained thousands of skiers and mountaineers producing many national champions and international ski athletes. He was also invited by the British Army to give training on Himalayan climbing after he climbed Saser Kangri.
