Major General Sanjay C Meston, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd),
an alumnus of Oak Grove School, Mussoorie and National
Defence Academy, Pune was commissioned into the Mahar
Regiment in 1981. He has extensive operational experience
across Jammu & Kashmir and other sensitive regions of the
country, besides a stint as a United Nations Military Observer
in Mozambique and Rwanda. During his distinguished military
career, he held several important command, staff, intelligence, and
diplomatic assignments. As a Brigadier, he served in the
Military Operations Directorate as DDG MO (A) and also as
Director, Military Intelligence (Foreign Division). He was
India’s Defence Attaché in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2014.
He commanded an Infantry Brigade on the Northern
borders and later commanded an Infantry Division on India’s
Western borders. Both his sons are serving officers in the Indian
Army, continuing the family’s long tradition of military service.
