Major General Lakhwinder Singh, YSM (Retd),
an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune
was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery
in December 1967. As a young Captain he fought
the 1971 War in the Dera Baba Nanak,
Western Theatre. Since then he has seen action in
every rank of his career. An ‘Out of the box
thinker’, he ideated a new concept for Artillery
Fire Power to force the enemy to submission in the
Kargil Heights War. Nicknamed the “Enraged
Bull of Drass” for his technique of applying
overwhelming firepower, he played a critical
leadership role in our victory in Kargil. He went on
to command an artillery division.
