Lieutenant General BS Raju, PVSM, UYSM,
AVSM, YSM (Retd), was commissioned into 11 JAT in
December 1984. An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur
and the National Defence Academy, he has served in some
of the Army’s most challenging operational environments,
including Siachen, Jammu & Kashmir and the Line of
Control. He commanded 15 JAT, Uri Brigade, Counter
Insurgency Force (Victor) and Chinar Corps, Srinagar.
He served as Director General of Military Operations
and subsequently as the Vice Chief of Army Staff. He is
also a qualified helicopter pilot and has served with the
United Nations in Somalia. General Raju retired as the
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western
Command on 31 October 2023.
